What is verification?
Verification is a platform's own confirmation that an account genuinely belongs to the person or organisation it claims to, shown as a badge on the profile.
Also called verified badge, blue tick.
What the badge means now varies by platform and has changed repeatedly. On some it still signals a reviewed identity; on others it is attached to a paid subscription and signals only that someone is paying. Treating all badges as equivalent evidence of authenticity is no longer safe.
For a brand the practical value is less about status than about disambiguation: a verified official account gives customers a reliable way to tell it from the impersonating ones, and gives a platform a clearer basis for acting on reports.
Applications turn on evidence — registered entity details, an authoritative presence elsewhere, and consistency across the accounts already held. Assembling that pack once and reusing it is what makes verification achievable across a large estate.
